Scholorship

EWE Stiftung ArtLab 2025
Art Scholorship Gut Altenkamp

As part of the Ostfriesland Biennale 2025, the EWE Foundation is offering talented artists an extraordinary opportunity: a stay at the inspiring artist residence Gut Altenkamp in Emsland. The scholarship highlights outstanding artistic positions and invites you to bring art to rural areas.

A jury of experts from the Ostfriesland Biennale association and its environment as well as members of the EWE Foundation committee has decided on the awarding of the scholarship. The award ceremony by Dr. Stefanie Abke, Managing Director and Head of the EWE Foundation’s office, took place as part of the opening of the Ostfriesland Biennale on 6 June 2025 in the Kunsthalle Emden.

The winner of the EWE Foundation ART LAB Art Scholarship 2025 is Christian Pilz. The artist, who was born in Ascot (UK) in 1978 and lives in Berlin, was chosen from 76 applicants. His artistic oeuvre is dedicated to drawing. He studied at the Hochschule der Künste in Berlin and was a master student of Leiko Ikemura in 2006. As a scholarship holder, he will spend four weeks at Gut Altenkamp this summer, will also receive 5000 euros and plans to design a work for the outdoor space, the baroque park of the manor house. There he will create a drawing with chalk in the landscape, which can be walked on and is shaped, influenced and ultimately reclaimed by nature.
